The military council said the fighter jet that crashed in Pale Township, Sagaing Region, crashed after experiencing engine failure during a training exercise.
The military council’s statement came hours after the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), which is leading the battle to capture the camp, said it had shot down a military fighter jet during a battle for the Kandung police station in Pale Township.
The military council said the fighter jet, which was on a training mission, crashed near Sampung Village in Pale Township and caught fire.
Security forces have visited the crash site and are investigating the cause, but the statement did not say what type of aircraft it was or whether the pilots were killed.
Footage of the crash, which was posted on social media, showed the plane almost completely destroyed and people talking about the body parts of the person believed to be the pilot.
